We introduced cellar trays as a packaging option for cleanskin wine last year. To give you some history, we have previously used cellar stacks which are the layflat plastic variety. These proved to be inefficient for production and not very cost effective so they are now only used for cleanskin corked bottles. Cellar trays are an upright version that can fit roughly the same amount of bottles onto a pallet as cased wine (depending on the bottle sizes). The bottling, labelling and storage rates are cheaper due to the efficiency of packaging and storage room. We did this to make bottling to cleanskin a viable option if you are not 100% sure of where your wine will be sold. This reduces the chance of having to strip labels, and means less money is tied up in cartons and packaging until your wine is ready to be sent to clients.
